Organizer’s Note: There is a possibility of a second post trip being announced this week. However, as confirmation has not been made, we can only warn you in advance. In the meantime, we are EXTREMELY excited for the support of Chianti Classico, feeling this will be an absolutely amazing trip worthy of all of your time!
Chianti Classico’s 175,000 acres of production territory are located in the provinces of Florence and Siena, covering the communities of Castellina, Gaiole, Greve and Radda in Chianti in their entirety and parts of Barberino Val d’Elsa, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Poggibonsi, San Casciano and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.
This is the homeland of hundreds of DOCG (Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin) wines, the summit of the qualitative pyramid for Italian enology, all bearing the unmistakable Black Rooster trademark and united by production regulations imposing strict standards: a minimum of 80% of Sangiovese grapes grown only in the “oldest zone of origin”, the one delimited in 1716 by an edict issued by Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III.
Two centuries later, in 1924, Radda in Chianti was the birthplace of the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium ideated by 33 vintners.
As the years went by, this originally small group of producers greatly enlarged and today the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium has more than 600 members, 350 of whom bottle under their own labels, but all with a unifying symbol carried on the Italian state seal: in fact, only the real Chianti Classico bears the historic Black Rooster on the neckband of every bottle.
During the Post Trip Tour (Monday, October 17th – Wednesday, October 19th) we will accompany you on an exploration of the different spirits of the Black Rooster. You will see where it was born and talk to its top producers, hearing from various vintners the different personal histories that gave life to different production philosophies and hence to varying nuances in the unique character our Sangiovese expresses throughout Chianti Classico territory.
Tasting the cuisine of the territory, prepared by its finest interpreters, you will understand why the Black Rooster is considered one of the world’s best wines to drink with meals. And if at some wineries you will encounter ancient, creaking suits of armor, in others it will be all the power of great contemporary art installed amidst the vineyards to capture your hearts forever. We will travel together through a palette of colors that only autumn can give our landscapes. Very special sensations that for now we can only tell you about, but are eager to have you experience.
The consortium will be happy to answer any question or request for information through its social media:
We look forward to seeing you in Chianti, and please remember, registration for this trip is free but is first come first serve only.
Note: WIFI in Chianti Classico territory might be a bit patchy, but the consortium will do its best to keep you connected. We also recommend bringing an Ethernet cable for Internet connection in hotels.
Pick up for the trip will be at 9am from the Hotel Vittoria. Drop-off will either be at the Malpensa airport, arriving by 5pm, or for those without a flight, the Hotel Vittoria that evening.
